The Springfield City Council will vote Tuesday on an agreement to keep providing school resource officers to the city’s public high schools.

The agreement between the city and District 186 was approved by the school board earlier this month. The resource officers are full-time police who are stationed at the high schools both to provide security and to foster better relations with students.

Even though the latest intergovernmental agreement has not yet been finalized by both sides, SROs have remained at the city’s high schools under the previous agreement.
