Communities across Sangamon County are in line to receive tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars in a new round of funding to help them cover some of the expenses incurred at the height of the COVID pandemic.

The money is going to towns and villages that did not get direct COVID funding from the federal government the way larger communities like Springfield did. It’s the second such round of payouts to smaller communities, and in most cases the new funding is equal to the first round. Total amounts are based on population and range from $23,000 for the village of Berlin to $1.7 million for Chatham.

The money can be used to cover budget holes caused by the pandemic… or to upgrade water, sewer, or broadband infrastructure.
