Several Springfield schools were temporarily placed on a soft lockdown after a report of a man walking through a neighborhood carrying a gun.

Police were dispatched to the 700 block of South New Street shortly after 10am Tuesday, but were unable to locate the subject. Trinity Lutheran School had a previously-scheduled early dismissal, and police were assigned to be on standby as students were let out for the day. Two other nearby schools, Springfield High and Graham Elementary, were placed on soft lockdowns, with restrictions on movement in and near the school. Three other schools… Black Hawk, Franklin, and the Early Learning Center… were also temporarily placed on a lockdown Tuesday afternoon after another reported sighting of the man, but police determined there was no threat and the lockdowns were lifted a short time later.

Police are continuing to investigate the incident.
