A Capital Township trustee is making another attempt to become a Springfield alderman.

Brad Carlson has announced his candidacy for the open seat in Ward 7. Carlson challenged incumbent Joe McMenamin in 2019 but lost. Now McMenamin cannot run again because of term limits, and Carlson is the first announced candidate for the seat. He says one of his big priorities is infrastructure, particularly in making sure the city’s storm sewer system can handle rain events like Sunday’s major downpour.

Although Mayor Jim Langfelder has proposed having the city take over Capital Township operations, Carlson says during his time as a trustee, the township has become more streamlined and efficient, and he sees no need to make such a change.
