Thirteen new Springfield police officers have been sworn in, moving the department closer to its full authorized strength.
While the department is authorized for 253 sworn officers, as of June 30th it had only 224 on the force… of which 188 were on active patrol assignment.
The 13 new hires would give the department a total strength of 237 officers… with more recruits and a few lateral hires expected to be added in the coming months.
