After more than two months of steady declines, gas prices are inching back up again in Springfield.

The average price for a gallon of regular unleaded has climbed for two straight days, after falling steadily since hitting a record high of $5.27 a gallon on June 11th. Tuesday’s average price of $3.74 a gallon is up more than five cents from Monday… although it’s still 80 cents a gallon lower than a month ago.

One possible explanation for the higher prices is that demand for gasoline is picking up again after falling off as prices hit all-time highs in early summer.
