A suburban Chicago café has canceled a planned drag show after being subjected to threats and vandalism.
UpRising Bakery and Café in Lake of the Hills had promoted what it called a “family friendly” drag event, prompting a backlash on conservative websites and social media. Then on Friday, several windows at the business were smashed and a homophobic slur was painted on a wall of the business.
A suspect has been arrested and is facing a hate crime charge.
