The heat is on this summer, and before you take a dip in the water to cool off, the Office of the Illinois State Fire Marshall wants you to remember some water safety tips.

According to the centers for disease control, approximately 2 children under 15 years old die every day from drowning and most of those deaths happen in swimming pools. And while chlorine is important for your pools upkeep and swimmer’s health, pool chemicals lead to 4,500 emergency room visits a year.

It’s important to make sure that pools are properly guarded with fences or gates, children are supervised around the water, and it’s a good idea to learn how to perform CPR on kids and adults
