The director of the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services has been held in contempt of court for the 12th time since January, in another case stemming from the state’s failure to find suitable placements for individuals in state custody.

The latest case involves a 15-year-old girl who has remained in a psychiatric hospital, even though she was found in January to be eligible for transfer to a standard residential setting.

In addition to the contempt citations, Director Marc Smith is facing fines of $1,000 per day in each of the cases where children have not been properly placed in a timely fashion.
