It’s time for the annual request from state officials to lay off do-it-yourself fireworks displays and leave the big bangs to the professionals.
The Illinois Department of Natural Resources and the state fire marshal note that most fireworks are not legal in Illinois, unless someone has obtained the appropriate state and local permits. Improper or unpermitted use of fireworks can result in fines or even potentially jail time… in addition to the risk of personal injury or property damage.
There will be multiple local professional displays this weekend, including at the Capital City Celebration downtown, Knight’s Action Park, and Robin Roberts Stadium after Sunday and Monday’s Springfield Lucky Horseshoes games.
