Republican nominee for governor Darren Bailey continues to face scrutiny for some of his positions on social issues… even as he appears to be taking a more moderate tone on abortion.

Bailey said early in his campaign that he opposed abortion even in cases of rape or incest. But this week, he told a Chicago radio station that he would allow exceptions in those cases, as well as to save the life of the mother. Bailey says banning abortion wouldn’t solve anything… and says his goal is to create conditions to make abortion “unnecessary.” But now Bailey’s taking heat from Governor JB Pritzker’s campaign for comments on same-sex marriage. Bailey says he believes in “biblical marriage” between one man and one woman.

But he also says same-sex marriage is the law of the land… and says there are much bigger issues to focus on.
