Bailey Vows To Make Abortion ”Unnecessary,” Will Seek To Reinstate Some Restrictions

Republican candidate for governor Darren Bailey says if he’s elected, he will move on Day One to reinstate some restrictions on abortions in Illinois… but he stops short of saying that he would someday push for an all-out ban on the procedure.

Recent polls show Bailey is the frontrunner in the six-man race for the GOP nomination to challenge Governor JB Pritzker this fall. In the aftermath of the U.S. Supreme Court ruling that ends a woman’s constitutional right to an abortion and leaves the availability of the procedure up to the states, Bailey says his goal is to make abortion “unnecessary” in Illinois, but says he will seek to end any taxpayer-funded abortions and to reinstate parental notification laws.

But he says even those changes will be difficult to accomplish with the Democratic-controlled legislature.
