Springfield Mayor Jim Langfelder is proposing an advisory referendum to ask city residents if they want to dissolve whatever portion of township governments cover areas within the city limits.

The question asks if the city should then assume the taxes and duties of those townships. While such a move would primarily impact Capital Township, it would also affect several other townships whose boundaries include small portions of the city.

Langfelder will ask aldermen to vote later this month on whether to place the non-binding referendum on the November ballot.
