Springfield city officials continue to debate the best site to relocate one of the city’s fire stations.

The fire department would like to move Station Six from its current location on South Ninth to the former Honeywell-Hobbs factory site on South 11th. But environmental cleanup and other needed upgrades to the site could cost nearly half-a-million dollars. Fire Chief Brandon Blough says that site still seems like the best long-term option to ensure the station can meet fire response needs for decades to come.

But Ward 6 Alderwoman Kristin DiCenso says the city needs to be looking at alternatives that wouldn’t require as much time and money.
