A veteran Springfield educator has been named the District 186 Administrator of the Year.

Ridgely Elementary principal Ken Gilmore received the award in a surprise announcement at the end of the school day Friday. Gilmore, who is retiring this year after a 35-year career in education, receives $500 and a crystal award from Horace Mann, which began its Educator of the Year awards locally in 1988.

Two other finalists for the award… Karon Durrett of Student Support Services and Cody Trigg of Southeast High School… will each receive $250.
