A longtime Illinois State Fair Grandstand favorite will return to the fair for the first time in more than 20 years this summer.

Willie Nelson… who played every State Fair for more than a decade when Jim Thompson was governor… has been booked to headline on Tuesday, August 16th. The 89-year-old singer last appeared in the Grandstand in 2001. His opening act will be Elle King, a pop and country singer who had a hit a few years back with “Ex’s and Oh’s.” The fair has also announced several opening acts for previously-announced shows, including singer Ann Wilson of Heart opening for Sammy Hagar and the Circle on August 21st. Tickets for Willie Nelson go on sale this Saturday.

Tickets for the other announced shows are already available through Ticketmaster.
