Governor JB Pritzker is vowing that abortion will remain safe and legal in Illinois, in the wake of a leaked draft decision indicating that the U.S. Supreme Court is prepared to overturn Roe v. Wade.
That’s the landmark 1973 decision that stated women have a constitutional right to make such decisions for themselves. But the leaked draft says Roe was wrongly decided and there is no such right in the Constitution. Pritzker says the leaked draft sets the stage for other individual rights of privacy to be rolled back… including access to contraception and same-sex marriage.
He says Illinois will fight to preserve those rights within its borders.
