The chairman of the Illinois Republican Party is telling the party’s candidates for governor to lay off each other.

In an open letter, Don Tracy says the negative campaigning targeting fellow Republicans “has got to stop.” Without naming names, Tracy’s demand appears to be aimed at candidates Richard Irvin and Darren Bailey, each of whom has been attacking the other as not sufficiently conservative or faithful to the party’s ideals.

Tracy says GOP candidates need to “talk more about their respective virtues, and less about the alleged faults of their primary opponents.”
