Scarlette: Other Officers Did Not Know About Nichols’ Social Media Posts

Springfield’s police chief insists that others in the department had no idea about the racist and bigoted attitudes of a former cop who resigned amid an investigation of his social media posts.

But many in the crowd at Wednesday night’s unity summit in Springfield are skeptical of the claim and are demanding that more be done to root out prejudice within the department. Chief Ken Scarlette says an internal investigation of former officer Aaron Nichols’ conduct continues, including a review of any body cam video that’s still available, an analysis of his traffic stops and arrests, and scrutiny of his use of department computers. Wednesday’s forum was jointly sponsored by the Springfield NAACP and the Springfield Jewish Federation.
