Longtime Voice Of The Illini, Jim Turpin, Dies

The longtime radio voice of University of Illinois football and basketball has died.

 

Jim Turpin called Illini games for more than 40 years until his retirement in 2022. He was also a longtime fixture on Champaign radio stations, serving as an announcer well into his 80s. Turpin was 90.

 

No immediate cause of death was given, but reports indicate he had recently suffered a fall at home.
