Governor JB Pritzker has released millions of dollars in funding for public works projects that were temporarily frozen because of their connection to indicted former House Speaker Mike Madigan.
A group of Democratic lawmakers had asked Pritzker to hold those funds after a Better Government Association investigation outlined Madigan’s role in securing $144 million for just four “Rebuild Illinois” projects.
Pritzker froze the funds temporarily, but now says a review confirms that the money was allocated in compliance with state rules and regulations.
