The new city budget approved Tuesday night by Springfield aldermen contains funding for a number of major new projects.

One of the biggest is nearly $3 million for a city-run waste and recycling dropoff center. The city currently contracts with Evans Recycling for those services, but will now move to have its own site, staffed by city employees. Aldermen approved $350,000 for a bookmobile for Lincoln Library, but since it could take nearly a year to acquire it, they opted not to include funding in this budget for two staffers to operate it. The approved budget also contains $180,000 to install at least one portable restroom downtown for visitors.

The exact location has not been determined.
