After months of negotiations, Springfield firefighters have reached a tentative contract agreement with the City of Springfield.
No details of the deal were immediately released, and it’s not known how the agreement will affect the issue of minimum staffing levels, which has been one of the main sticking points in the talks. Firefighters Local 37 is conducting a ratification vote this week, and if it passes, the Springfield City Council would next vote on the contract.
It appeared that contract talks had stalled, and an arbitrator was being brought in to resolve remaining issues, but the two sides were able to work out an agreement without resorting to arbitration.
