Another very rich donor is seeking to influence the outcome of this year’s race for Illinois governor.
Business supply company CEO Richard Uihlein is giving $1 million to state Senator and GOP candidate for governor Darren Bailey. The donation will give a lift to Bailey in the crowded GOP primary, and Bailey says it was an “initial” donation with a promise of more to come. But so far it pales in comparison to the $20 million that billionaire Ken Griffin has given to Bailey’s Republican rival, Richard Irvin.
And neither Republican has yet come close to the $125 million that Democratic Governor JB Pritzker has donated to his own campaign since last year.
