The former prosecutor who’s now running for Illinois Secretary of State says that office gives him the best chance to restore the public’s faith in government.

John Milhiser served as Sangamon County State’s Attorney and U.S. Attorney, and is now seeking the Republican nomination to replace long-time Democratic Secretary of State Jesse White. Milhiser has talked often during the campaign about fighting corruption, and during a live appearance on WMAY, he was asked why he’s not running for attorney general.

He says he dealt more with the secretary of state’s office than the attorney general’s office as a prosecutor, and says he’s hoping to improve service in an office has direct contact with millions of Illinoisans.
