Sangamon County authorities are investigating the death of a person whose remains were found in the debris after a house fire in Buffalo early Saturday.

Fire crews were called to the 11-thousand block of Cass Road in Buffalo around 1:15am. Damage to the structure was extensive, and crews were not able to search for occupants until later in the day. Shortly after noon, the body was discovered.

Coroner Jim Allmon says an autopsy will be performed Monday. There is no word yet on the identity of the victim or the cause of the fire.
