The Springfield city boys’ basketball tournament will still go on… sort of… despite the impact of COVID.

There will not be an official city champion crowned at the tournament, because the Lanphier boys’ team has to sit out the entire event because of COVID. The girls’ team will also miss two days of the event. Other city schools will play in a “shootout” format. Attendance will be limited to just 3,000 per night to allow for more spacing, and masks will be required at all times inside the BOS Center. The Center is also adjusting its HVAC system to pump in more fresh air during the games to allow for more circulation as another safeguard against spread of the virus.

The tournament opens Thursday night.
