For the first time since sports betting became legal in Illinois two years ago, Illinoisans can now place bets on games involving the state’s colleges and universities.
Some college and university officials objected, saying it could make student-athletes vulnerable to attempts to rig games.
The new law signed by Governor JB Pritzker limits wagers involving Illinois schools to outcomes of games, not individual performances, and requires such bets to be placed in person at sportsbooks, not through online apps.
