Illinois State Police say they have nearly eliminated an enormous backlog of applications for Firearms Owners ID card renewals, and are now processing those applications within the time limits mandated by state law.
One year ago, state police were dealing with a backlog of more than 138,000 FOID card applications. The agency says a streamlined process and the hiring of more “eligibility analysts” allowed them to reduce that backlog to 21,000 in September… and now to just under 8,000.
And state police say those applications are being processed within 38 calendar days… below the 60-day maximum requirement under state statute.
