One of the top Democrats in the Illinois General Assembly says he will retire at the end of his current term.
Illinois House Majority Leader Greg Harris has served in the legislature for 15 years and became the first openly LGBTQ member of legislative leadership. He has been a main budget negotiator for years and was the chief sponsor of the bill that brought marriage equality to Illinois.
Harris says he will finish out his term but will not seek re-election in 2022.
