Just so you know – in case you’re wondering – the fact that I get to do something that I love doesn’t go unappreciated by me. As a media personality, I’ve been able to do some of the coolest things, and I know it’s because of my job. From interviewing and meeting new people, to attending concerts and galas – there’s always something going on that allows me to learn more or enjoy myself.
One of my favorite parts of this job is that I get to help people. The way that I try to do this on a more regular basis can be heard through my interviews of small business owners or not-for-profits. Watching people passionately talk about their goals and ideas is such a pleasure for me; it makes me feel good knowing I am helping to facilitate that, while helping the community to know more about what’s all around them.
Every once in a while, however, an opportunity comes along that allows me to make an even greater difference in someone’s life. Every day on The Morning Routine, I ask the listeners a question. On one particular day quite recently, I asked about items that might be on a person’s bucket list; what sort of goals do individuals across our community want to achieve before they pass away? And we had all sorts
of wonderful, meaningful answers – from seeing the Great Wall of China, to traveling all fifty states – but one answer stuck out to me as a little bit simpler than the rest. It was from a frequent listener, Emily, and hers was a simple request: “I’d like to ride a motorcycle one more time.”
So I reached out to Emily a bit later and asked her what was going on. She shared with me that she is about to go through an upcoming brain surgery, which is set to stop her from doing a lot of things she loves to do; this included fair rides – which she loves – and, most importantly, riding motorcycles. Emily noted that she didn’t know anyone currently who had a bike to take her for one more ride – so I reached out to my friend Jeff, and he connected us with Donnie from Koo Koo’s 2, and we scheduled a time over the weekend to get one more ride on the iron horse in.
I was expecting Emily to show up alone, but boy, was I wrong. When she arrived, she pulled up with multiple cars in tow and brought a massive posse of family, friends, and supporters; her family and friends had all come to experience her last ride with her. It was really beautiful and touching.
And when she got back from her ride with Donnie, it was clear by the look on her face and her enthusiasm that she had an awesome time; meanwhile, the looks that came across the faces of all of her family and friends further impressed upon me the importance of caring for others and utilizing my position for the good of the community.
It’s this type of stuff that makes what I do so amazing.
Help me send healing energy to our friend Emily!
