Mental Health Monday: Comfort Zones [VIDEO]

Mental Health Monday, Rocki

People love their comfort zone. It’s that place, thing or feeling that has us at our most relaxed. I think that, for the most part, we try to spend our time right smack dab in the middle of our comfort zones as often as we can. It’s natural to want that ease and confidence which comes with being comfortable. What if we never left? What if we spent all our time in a comfortable place and never made ourselves feel out of place?

It happens more than you probably think.

For me, getting uncomfortable means growth. It means putting yourself through the ringer over and over, so that one day, the ringer doesn’t seem so bad; this is different for everybody. For some, discomfort might simply be going outside – for others, it could be traveling to a different country.

I think most discomfort boils down to simply experiencing things that you are unfamiliar with – the fear of the unknown. Also, facing things you know give you fear.

I love this quote from Edward Whitacer, Jr, “Be willing to step outside your comfort zone once in a while; take the risks in life that seem worth taking. The ride might not be as predictable if you’d just planted your feet and stayed put, but it will be a heck of a lot more interesting.”

To me, that quote says it all. Memories are made on the outside, away from where things fall into routine. Challenge yourself to do something that might be scary to you – or something you’ve never tried. You never know what doors it could open or passions it could ignite. You just never know, which is exciting – isn’t it?

Enjoy this week’s fun feeling, good time video!
