Two Springfield aldermen have declined to sign the civility pledge approved last month by the City Council.

The voluntary pledge asks city elected officials to listen, be respectful to and of others, and recognize that people may have differing ideas on how to achieve the best outcomes for the city.

Mayor Misty Buscher, Clerk Frank Lesko, and Treasurer Colleen Redpath Feger all signed the pledge – as did eight of the ten aldermen. But Ward 2’s Shawn Gregory and Ward 3’s Roy Williams, Jr. did not.

Both have complained in recent weeks that their concerns and the needs of their wards have been dismissed by their colleagues.

When contacted by WMAY News, Gregory declined to comment on his decision not to sign the pledge. Williams did not immediately respond to a request for comment; the civility pledge can be seen below!
