While 24 Gannett newspapers will face union staffer strikes on Monday, the State Journal-Register of Illinois won’t be one

Workers at the biggest newspaper chain in the country plan to walk off the job Monday in protest, but the job action won’t impact the State Journal-Register.

Union staffers at 24 Gannett newspapers in seven states will take part in the one-day work stoppage to protest steep job cuts across the company.

The SJ-R is owned by Gannett, but a representative of the Newspaper Guild says the local has a current contract in place and will not take part in Monday’s walkout.
