The District 186 e-sports program is celebrating another successful year, with plans to grow in the coming year.

The Springfield Capitols brings in students from all three public high schools to compete against other schools around the state in a variety of video games. This spring, the Capitols’ Fortnite squad finished second in the state, and the team had top ten finishes in state competition for League of Legends and Overwatch 2.

Head coach Dalton McGhiey says the program plans to add several titles next year, including Mario Kart 8, Pokemon Unite, and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II.

And the Capitols plan to partner with Special Olympics to host a “Unified Elympics” with special ed and mainstream students competing side-by-side.
