WMAY’s Last Night-in-Sports Report: 05/16/2023

The St. Louis Cardinals offense erupted for 18 runs last night at Busch as they blew out the Milwaukee Brewers 18-1 in the final. Nolan Gorman homered and drove in five for the Cards, while Nolan Arenado homered and drove in four, as did Ian Knizner. Jack Flaherty got the win on the mound. Cards and Brewers battle again tonight at Busch.

The Chicago Cubs gave up two runs in the bottom of the 7th and fell to the Astros in Houston 6-4 the final. Michael Fulmer took the loss in relief for the Cubs. Christopher Morel homered and drove in three for the Cubs in defeat. The Cubs and Astros tangle again tonight in Houston.

After a day off yesterday, the Chicago White Sox host the Cleveland Guardians tonight at the Rate. The first pitch is scheduled for 7:10p CT.

In the NHL playoffs last night, the Dallas Stars defeated the Seattle Kraken in a decisive game 7 by the score of 2-1 in the final. The Dallas Stars now advance to take on the Las Vegas Golden Knights in the Western Conference Finals.

The NBA draft lottery is being held tonight, and the Chicago Bulls have a 1.8% chance of landing the number 1 overall pick. That is the exact same odds they had when they won the draft lottery and selected Derrick Rose number 1 overall.
