WMAY’s Last Night-in-Sports Report: 05/15/2023

The St. Louis Cardinals bats were out in full force last night in Boston as they pounded the Red Sox 9-1 in the final. Nolan Arenado led the way for the Cards going 2 for 4 with a homer and 4 driven in. The Cards return home to Busch tonight to start a series with the Milwaukee Brewers.

The Chicago Cubs were flat-out embarrassed yesterday in Minnesota, losing 16-3 to the Twins. Marcus Stroman, who had been pitching well thus far this season, took the loss going 2 and 2/3rds, giving up 7 hits and 6 runs. Christopher Morel and Seiya Suzuki went deep for the Cubs in defeat. The Cubs are in Houston tonight to start a series with the Astros.

Speaking of the Astros, they defeated the Chicago White Sox yesterday at the Rate 4-3 in the final. Luis Robert and Jake Burger homered for the Sox in the loss. The Sox are off today and host the Cleveland Guardians tomorrow night at the Rate.

In the NBA playoffs yesterday, the Boston Celtics took care of the Philadelphia 76ers in a decisive game 7 112-88. The Celtics will now face the Miami Heat in the Eastern Conference final.

And, in the NHL playoffs, the Las Vegas Golden Knights ended the Edmonton Oilers season with a 5-2 victory. The Knights now await the winner of tonight’s game 7 between the Dallas Stars and Seattle Kraken in the Western Conference Final.
