Metallica released their album ‘Reload’ on Nov 18, 1997 with fans having initial mixed reactions as the band continued to venture outside of the metal bubble while retaining their grit, it has grown to be a special part of the iconic band’s legacy. Here we will give streams for the whole album, a rare MTV special performance, and more to remember when ‘Tallica kept their short as they went into new worlds musically.

Check out this deep dive into the album and the reactions to it from Metal Hammer.

Reportedly ‘Load’ and ‘Reload’ were conceived early on as a double-album but the band with mega-worldwide touring obligations and the process of making that much music dragged the process out with the band breaking up the entire project. This became evident with the first part on ‘Load’ as very fresh elements for the metal kings to experiment with southern rock influences, guest vocalists, and things you just would not expect. Entertainment Weekly said ‘Reload’ “continues Metallica’s journey into stripped-down maturity while toying with fresh melodic textures”.

Watch this fun find in a live MTV special hosted by the very wise Matt Pinfield with the band taking live request and rehearsing from the tour behind ‘ReLoad’. A very rare performance of the divergent slower track ‘Low Man’s Lyric’ opens the special with an acoustic portion. Somehow James Hetfield tried to perform on live TV the very filthy lyrics of ‘So What’. Yeah, if you know that one you know that would be risky.
