The acting director of Lincoln Library says it’s going to need more staff and resources in the months to come in order to overcome the many challenges facing it.

Summer Griffith… whose nomination to officially become the library’s director is pending before the City Council… told aldermen this week that Springfield’s library has fewer employees and less revenue per capita than any other comparable Central Illinois library district. Griffith says it’s a “fallacy” to think you can do more with less… and says the library will need more to do more.

She’s hoping to develop “micro-branches” in addition to implementing a new bookmobile sometime next year, and also wants to upgrade the library’s computers and make a number of cosmetic changes to the nearly 50-year-old library building.
