Blood Supplies Running Low; Donors Urgently Sought

An urgent call is going out for blood donations ahead of the Fourth of July weekend, as local supplies of blood are starting to run critically low.

Donations often drop off during the summer every year, as more people are traveling. But blood donation agency ImpactLife says the situation has been made worse in recent years by the COVID pandemic and by staffing shortages which have disrupted mobile blood drives. Those mobile drives used to account for 60-percent of donations, but as those numbers have declined, fixed site donations have not been enough to make up the slack.

You’re encouraged to make an appointment to give blood at bloodcenter.org.
