Local gas prices are still inching downward after hitting a record high earlier this month. But the price of diesel is still climbing.

The average price for regular unleaded in Springfield fell three cents Wednesday to $5.10 a gallon… down from the record of $5.27 a gallon set back on June 11th. But it’s still nearly 40 cents a gallon higher than a month ago.

And diesel hit another record Wednesday, climbing to an average of $5.70 a gallon. That’s more than twelve cents higher than it was a week ago, and 45 cents a gallon more than this time last month. Both regular unleaded gas and diesel were about two dollars a gallon cheaper in June of 2021.
