Unemployment in Illinois is holding steady, even as employers continue to add new jobs.

Even with nearly 13,000 new jobs created statewide in May, the state unemployment rate was unchanged from April at 4.6 percent. The biggest job gains last month were in hospitality, educational and health services, and construction.

Illinois’s jobless rate is a full percentage point higher than the current national average, but it’s 1.9 percent lower than it was statewide one year ago.
