After setting record highs for days on end in late May and early June, local gas prices are starting to slowly recede.

Since topping out at almost $5.28 a gallon last Saturday, the average price for regular unleaded in Springfield has slid to $5.22 as of Thursday morning. But that’s still 55 cents a gallon higher than it was a month ago, and more than two-dollars a gallon higher than this time last year.

And diesel continues to set records, climbing to a new all-time average high of $5.61 a gallon in Springfield Thursday.
