The Illinois Air National Guard is getting a new commander.

Colonel Dan McDonough is being promoted to Assistant Adjutant General and commander of the Air Guard. McDonough is currently the commander of the 182nd Airlift Wing, based in Peoria. He will be sworn in to his new position during a ceremony Saturday.

McDonough replaces Major General Pete Nezamis, who has been in charge of the Air National Guard since 2019 and will retire this summer after 37 years of military service.
