Springfield police are wrapping up their investigation of an incident this week where an eight-year-old student brought a gun into Lee Elementary School… and say they will forward the information they obtain to the Sangamon County State’s Attorney.

District 186 says the student apparently brought the gun from home, but it’s still unclear how the child had access to the firearm. It’s also not yet known how teachers and staff at the school became aware of the gun. Police say the child did not display the gun on school property. School officials were able to retrieve the weapon and turn it over to police.

No one was hurt.
