Two more unvaccinated Sangamon County residents have died of COVID-19.
The latest fatalities are a man in his 60s and a man in his 70s, bring the total number of county residents to die of complication from the virus to 341. Of that total, 43 people died after being vaccinated. Only seven of them had been fully vaccinated and gotten the COVID booster. Daily case rates remain high, but have come down considerably from the peak earlier this month. There were 406 new infections reported Thursday, moving the county total since the start of the pandemic to more than 51,000.
The seven-day average is down to 477 per day, compared to a high of 847 per day just two weeks ago.
