Illinois’s unemployment rate dipped in December, but the numbers may not reflect the full impact of the latest COVID surge.

The statewide jobless rate fell last month to 5.3 percent, a decline of four-tenths of one-percent.

The state also added 22,000 jobs last month, with the biggest increase coming in the leisure and hospitality category… but that trend could change in January as the impact of soaring COVID numbers is felt.
