Marveling At Going Back To The Movie Theater

While Marvel has released some shows on Disney + , it hadn’t been since July of 2019 that Marvel had released a movie in the theater. That all changed this past weekend when after a year’s worth of delays Black Widow finally was released in theaters and to celebrate that fact the wife and I finally made our return to the theater as well.

The pandemic has affected countless businesses but one of the ones affected the most was that of the movie theater. All of them shutdown at one time or another during the past year and a great many of them have not re-opened or simply just closed up shop. Film companies have made adjustments to their theatrical release plans and have supplemented them by making movies available on streaming platforms the same day as they hit theaters, for an additional price of course. Black Widow falls into the latter category as if you are a Disney + subscriber for just $29.99 you could stream it in the comfort of your own home. The wife and I however felt the first Marvel movie to be released since July 2019 needed to be seen in a theater.

We bought advanced tickets online as is pretty much the norm nowadays and made our way to the AMC 12 in Springfield on Friday night to check out the flick in IMAX. While TV’s and home sound systems have come a long way nothing can compare with an IMAX experience.

Upon arriving we noticed that the theater wasn’t too busy. We walked right in got our ticket scanned and were ready to go. We stopped off at the bar to get the Black Widow specialty cocktail “The Enigma”. I mean you have to celebrate and were told by the bartender that Friday was the first day that AMC finally gave everyone the go ahead to be able to actually garnish drinks. Previously if you ordered a Blue Moon there would be no orange as they were not allowed to garnish drinks due to protocols.

Popcorn was also a must for us on our return to the theater. We were able to get our snacks pretty quickly. Now they do offer mobile ordering via an app if you would prefer that method but we went the old school way of going through the line.

Once inside the theater we found our seats and awaited the movie. I had forgotten just how many previews they show before the main attraction. Good to know that some things haven’t changed. As for the movie itself it was another fine effort from Marvel. Plenty of action, funnier than I expected, and a nice bow to wrap up Black Widow’s story arc.

Overall the wife and I never felt apprehensive or weirded out by anything. The theater was cleaned well and the staff was super attentive and helpful. It was nice to have a bit of feeling normal again. I am sure we will be back later this month when the Rock embarks on his Jungle Cruise.
