Benedict Cumberbatch is getting a big raise to play Doctor Strange. The Emmy Award winning actor is getting $9.5 million to play the Sorcerer Supreme… that’s a $5 million pay raise from what he got for the first movie in 2016. But sources say the second Doctor Strange movie won’t be out until 2020.
Crazy Rich Asians edged out The Meg to become the new top movie in the US. The comedy took in $25.2 million to open in first place. Last weekend’s top movie, The Meg fell to second with $21.2 million. Mile 22 opened in third place with $13.6 million while Alpha opened in a tie for fourth with Mission: Impossible — Fallout with both taking in $10.5 million.
Kevin Spacey‘s new movie only took in $126 in its opening day. Billionaire Boys Club quietly opened Friday in eight theaters across the US. The crime-drama earned just $126 for the day and another $162 on Saturday for a two-day total of just $287. Spacey was accused last fall of sexual assault by a number of men, but the movie distributor decided to go ahead and release it.
Chicago bar called Replay Lincoln Park has turned their back room into the offices of Dunder Mifflin from the TV show The Office. The bar replicated the television show’s set complete with cardboard cutouts of cast members. The ‘office’ features working vending machines and computers. There is also a replica of Dwight’s desk with giant origami birds hanging above it.
Netflix cancelled The Break With Michelle Wolf and The Joel McHale Show. Even though Netflix does not release ratings for its shows, sources say neither show drew enough to be renewed. Wolf came under fire for comparing Ivanka Trump to a vaginal mesh on her show back in July.
Renee Zellweger will star in the Netflix drama series What/If. The series revolves around “the ripple effects of what happens when acceptable people start doing unacceptable things”. The concept calls for each season to tackle a different morality tale “inspired by culturally consequential source material.”
