Former UFC fighter and Hillsboro native Matt Hughes is out of a coma and is expected to make a full recovery, according to fellow UFC member Pat Miletich.
Miletich told The MMA Hour on Tuesday that Hughes is ‘surprising the doctors.’
“He’s making great leaps and he’s no longer in a coma, and he’s improving. It’s going to be a long road. Any type of head trauma at that level, there’s going to be some rehab.”
Hughes was involved in an accident on June 16 near his home, where his truck was struck on the passenger side by a train going approximately 50 miles per hour. Hughes was airlifted to a Springfield hospital with head trauma and was reported to be in a coma.
